Breath-hold diving is one of the oldest and most sustainable methods of harvesting marine life- passed on from generation to generation in almost every native coastal community around the world. Freediving and spearfishing in the U.S. is experiencing a tremendous growth, with countless practitioners added to the discipline daily. These disciplines have been showcased in movies such as "The Cove", "Into the Blue" and television shows such as "Offshore Adventures", "Speargun Hunter", and the Discovery Channel's ever popular "Shark Week".
The Apollo Beach Spearfishing Team's freediving trio of Aaron Schmidt, TA Martinez and Bill Van Deman are lifetime sportsmen, watermen and competitive athletes who have passed on their love of the water to friends, families and their children. They represent Tampa Bay Spearfishing Club in Florida Skin Diving Association club and outside events. Team strengths are teamwork, scouting, and achieving the same comfort level in good or difficult conditions (cold, poor visibility, current, etc.). Finally, the three feel that it is their faith in Jesus Christ that is the team's anchor not just in diving, but in life.
